Lockdown has been tough. I have struggled with self-motivation and have really missed going to classes and trying out new studios. I have definitely succumbed to the ‘quarantine kilos’! Thank goodness that Giesswein found me! I was gifted the Giesswein Merino Runners at the end of lockdown and have been trying and testing them since. They have become a motivation to get me off my arse, which is notably bigger! These shoes have become my new go-to pair…
Giesswein (pronounced Geese vine) gave me a pair of their Giesswein Merino Runners and at the perfect time. I was demotivated and feeling down. Being asked to check out and try and test a new product got me up and out. With any product that I review, I give it my all and fully test it out; I want my reviews to be honest and knowledgable, so these shoes really became a perfect motivator.
Who Are Giesswein?
Giesswein are an Austrian based family run business that has been developing clothes and shoes with merino wool for three generations.
“Wool is not an artificially manufactured standard, but as unique as nature itself. That’s why it takes years of experience of our employees to get wool into shape.” Giesswein
So, What Are Giesswein Merino Runners?
All-round walking, jogging, running shoes made with merino wool that have an EVA sole. Merino wool has some incredible properties, such as being naturally anti-bacterial and odour resistant. You can wear these shoes without socks! The natural properties of merino wool ensure your feet are warm in winter and cool in summer. They wick away any moisture, keeping your feet dry. The stretch that merino wool offers means your feet are comfortable as the shoes fit like a
glove, shoe! The sole is EVA technology which means they are light, soft, flexible and absorb impact.
“We select only hand-picked wool qualities according to high ethical and ecological standards.” Giesswein
What Are My Thoughts?
The Giesswein Merino Runners are so comfy and supportive and I was surprised at just how light they are. I have worn them running, jogging, shopping, walking and scooting! They are super soft, comfy, stretchy and have become my go-to pair of shoes. I love the colour; black with the white sole as they are versatile, but they do have other colours if you are more adventurous.
I haven’t needed to clean them yet, as London has been surprisingly hot… so no mud, but they can be washed in a washing machine (cold water, 30°C)!
In terms of sizing, I found that the Merino Runners were a tad big, so I sized down. I normally wear a UK 5.5 and I wear the Giesswein Merino Runners in a EUR 37, which is a UK 5. Besides, Giesswein don’t do half sizes. Shipping and returns are currently free in the UK, so if you get it wrong, it’s easy to fix.
“The highlights of our sustainable production are:
– 0% scraps
– up to 90% recycled water in production
– 100% use of renewable resources” Giesswein
I would recommend these shoes to anyone who needs a new pair of runners. They really are comfy and supportive and put a spring in your step!
The company are thoughtful and are focused on cruelty-free and sustainable production. This is important to me and something I always look into, especially when buying a merino wool product.
“At Giesswein, not only do we ensure that our Merino wool is of the utmost quality: we are also cruelty-free. We only source from farmers who hold a Mulesing-free certification.“ Giesswein
Giesswein’s Other Products
We love their Wool Cross X shoes as they are perfect for hiking. They are comfortable and supportive. (They do come up big, so size down).
Giesswein have several other products, most notably, their range of beautiful & comfortable flats that are made from recycled ocean plastics!
Also, their Sneakers are so light, they are perfect for summer.
Next on my wish list – their slippers, they look so cosy.
