Rumble (or Ready 2 Rumble) is a beautiful new carbon-neutral fitness studio near Dalston Station, equipped with top-notch equipment, highly skilled motivated personal trainers and a huge variety of workout types and classes. Anything you want, you can find it at Rumble!
Introduction to Rumble
Your introduction to Rumble starts when you download the gym app and book your first class. I should mention, that the class choice is beyond what you could wish for:
- Re.Match (Boxercise)
- Re.Cycle (Spinning)
- Re.Build (Calisthenics)
- Re.Sistence (TRX)
- Re.Run (Treadmils)
- Re.Hab (Pilates)
- Re.Centre/Re.Shape (Yoga)
- most importantly: Re.HIIT.
You can find one for any likes. When your class is booked, it is time to pack your gym bag and get to the studio. Don’t forget your trainers!
Getting here
There are multiple ways of getting here, by car (secure paid parking available nearby), by underground (Dalstone Station is right in front of the station) or by on-road public transport. The minute you step into the gym, you are welcomed by smiling faces of the receptionists (who are also instructors), and just like that all the noisiness and craziness of the city outside the studio walls fades away. The sign-in process takes seconds, so there is no need to come much in advance before the class.
Upstairs, you have the changing rooms with all the facilities you need: showers, hair dryers, hair straighteners, and lockers that close with a code (no need for a padlock!). As soon as you are changed and ready for your session, get back down to reception and one of the ardent personal trainers will take you to your correct studio. And so it begins…
Putting you through your paces
No matter which class you chose to do, the instructors will put you through your paces. They are also very knowledgeable and understand when to regress exercises due to injuries or health considerations, and will give personal attention when required. I took part in two classes and in both I received just the attention I needed.
The two classes I did were Re.Match (boxercise) and Re.HIIT. I truly enjoyed both, and would highly recommend them. In the 6.45am Re.Match there was only one other lady with me, but Re.HIIT at 7.40am was pretty packed.
Re.Match
Let’s start with Re.Match. I had done boxercise before, at Rumble in NYC and at 1Rebel in London, and this class structure was pretty similar to those. The class consisted of rounds with boxing bags, and rounds on the floor, which were a mixture core and bodyweight exercises. Kenny, who taught the class, explained all sequences on the boxing bag in detail and helped with technique. This is a super-enjoyable class where you will smash all the stress out in a highly technical manner, and leave the studio with a fresh mind. Both gloves and wraps are provided, there is no need to bring our own.
Re.HIIT
The second class, Re.HIIT is the signature class of Rumble gym. It is an on-going class, which ‘starts’ every 10 minutes and lasts for 40 minutes, but you can stay longer or leave earlier, if you wish to. There are 4 digital TV screens located strategically around the gym. Each of the screens displays 3 exercises, which you do for 45 seconds and then rest 15 seconds for 3 rounds. Each screen is a station, and you need to complete the 3 rounds (10 minutes total) before moving on to the next one. You start on the body weight station, and then move onto the other 3. An attentive personal trainer supervises the session and helps with exercise modification and technique. The best part is that you can leave or join this rolling class every 10 minutes! I think, this system beautifully implements the power of technology and brings circuits to a whole new level. The instructor gets the invaluable time to spend with participants helping them with technique, rather using it to demonstrate exercises like in conventional classes.
The Studio
The actual studio space consists of a free-weights room, climbing wall, TRXs, several high-spec treadmills, boxing and cycling studios. It is not your classic gym space, but more of a class-based experience with individual attention to every participant. The variety of equipment is more than enough for any individual, no matter if you prefer weight or body weight training. There are no resistance machines, but trust me you will not need them here.
The music choice is always a huge part of any gym experience. Rumble have got this aspect right: all trainers I encountered had a great playlist, which really motivated to push the body and gave you the energy for a hard-core workout. It is always much nicer to workout to up-beat well-chosen tracks than to just random songs with poor rhythm. Rumble, you nailed your music! Bravo!
Final thoughts
Overall, the studio made a great impression. It is rare that trainers give so much personal attention in classes and are ready to help you at all times. In addition to the great high-energy classes, attentive personal trainers and the perfect motivational ambiance for a workout, this gym is also carbon-neutral. Here, you won’t only do good for yourself, but will also do good for the planet. I highly recommend this gym, would absolutely go again, and am excited to see this gym chain grow.
