There is nothing better (or more necessary) to get my day off to a good start than a steaming hot cup of coffee. I enjoy the whole process from brewing the kettle, watching it brew and savouring every drop. So, when The Gentlemen Baristas offered a trial of one of their new Christmas bundles, ‘The V60’, I was delighted!
Who are the Gentlemen Baristas?
The Gentlemen Baristas is your ‘your friendly neighbourhood Coffee House and roasters’. They’ve just launched their Christmas gift selection including 3 wonderful bundles to suit every coffee drinker!
Typically, I favour a long coffee, my go to is an an Americano with a splash of milk. Whilst I don’t like my coffee too strong, I do like a cafetière for the depth of flavour that it delivers. In terms of coffee roast, I like something that sits in the middle of the spectrum with notes of chocolate and nuts.
V60 Coffee
Despite having friends who favour the V60 method I’d never used to the V60 dripped until now. Admittedly I’d perceived it as being a little over scientific and overcomplicating the coffee main process. That said I was proven wrong. It was anything but complicated to fill the server to an appropriate level. The coffee paper sat neatly in the dripper and I poured the hot water over at 30 second intervals allowing it to drain through coffee and paper (starting in the middle and working out, as per instructions).
It was gratifying to see the water, now infused and rich with coffee, filling the server as the rich roast smell fills the room. The server comes with a neat little lid to keep the coffee warm. I was overwhelmed with the depth of flavour! Unlike a cafetière there was no real brewing time, the coffee tasted as good, if not better! The coffee paper (with used coffee) just lifted and went straight into the food waste recycling – no messing around washing out the French press!! I’m a convert!
Totally delicious coffee
As for the coffee itself, the Gentlemen Baristas Top Hat had already won me over when I saw ‘Malted Biscuits’ and ‘Caramel finish’ in the tasting notes. I loved the hand-written roast date on the packet too, it adds to the authenticity and sets it aside from the supermarket stuff. It really didn’t disappoint! Lovely, rich drinkable coffee and the maltiness and sweet finish was most certainly evident – so clever.
Christmas treats
After enjoying so much, I was soon doing a little more research to see how I could get my hands on some more (for myself and Christmas presents). When I read the creds about the farm that grows these beautiful coffee beans, high in the hills of Nicaragua, and that it’s been Rainforest Alliance Certified since 2003, it made this delightful roast even more moreish!
If you’re looking for a treat to yourself, or a thoughtful gift for the coffee lover in your life I’d really recommend this product!
