Last week, I made my way to St. John’s Wood to experience a lavish lunch at one of the best sushi restaurants in North London. Maido Sushi. What makes this spot so special you ask? The concept at Maido Sushi is clear as day when you walk through the door. The restaurant holds a minimalist yet chic style, allowing you the immediate option of quick takeaway to your left and bar seating to your right. If you browse the
selection, you can see each box is prepared with premium quality fish and presentation held to a high standard.
If you’re on the run, you can scan the fresh, quality array of sushi-to-go options which include your classic California Roll or Vegan Sets, ranging all the way to the Special Rolls which have a little bite to them like the
Tuna, Avocado, Kimchi Roll.
I decided to dine in and get the full Maido experience. I was immediately greeted by the lovely wait staff who truly enhanced the dining experience. They welcomed me with the warm green tea, which was not like any other green tea i’ve tasted from the a bag! This was Shinzo Premium Sencha Green Tea made in its purest form. I was blown away by the fresh and almost creamy flavour of this beverage, which was a nice start to the
lunch.
My eyes then lit up as I saw the board of fresh sushi headed toward the table. An assortment of vibrant sushi and sashimi pieces filled the plate. I was given the Tuna Belly and Hamachi Sashimi, Tuna and Salmon Nigiri, along with the Salmon, Avocado and Vegetarian Signature Rolls. Each piece was beautifully crafted and certainly tasted more fresh than any sushi i’ve had in London before.
It’s clear that Maido Sushi operates on creating extremely high quality sushi, as they have 16 different choices for sashimi alone that are sourced from all over the world. They also aim to find more rare fish to present to
their customers such as Yellowtail, Toro, Japanese Scallops, Salmon Caviar, along with many other magnificent options.
I will absolutely be going out of my way to make another trip to Maido Sushi in the near future. Once I had a bite, I couldn’t wait for another. I’d highly suggest checking out the St. John’s Wood location or their
additional location in Belsize Park. You won’t be disappointed.
