Fancy something sweet? Instead of reaching for that chocolate bar, knock these raw chocolate balls up instead, it’ll take 5 minutes and satisfy your craving without the guilt.

Raw Chocolate Balls Recipe

Not got much time on your hands but are keen for a sweet treat? This raw chocolate balls recipe is the perfect replacement for shop-bought chocolate, much healthier and (we think) tastier too.

The quality of the ingredients is important: use high quality cacao powder and dates and these will taste amazing.

Ingredients

1.5 cups dessicated coconut
0.5 cup agave syrup or raw honey (or maple syrup – but this doesn’t make it raw)
0.75 cup of raw cocoa powder
0.25 cup of coconut oil
0.25 ground flaxseed
0.25 cup of chia seeds
0.25 cup of cocoa nibs, crushed
1 cup of medjool dates (medjool are the best as they are extra squishy and sweet)

Method
  1. Line a tray with greaseproof paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the coconut, cocoa powder, flaxseed, cocoa nibs and chia seeds.
  3. Here’s where it gets messy: add in the agave or honey, coconut oil and medjool dates and squish together with your hands. You can do this with one hand, using the back of a spoon to scrape off the mixture that gets stuck to your hand. Or you can lick it off…
  4. When it’s been thoroughly mixed, you’ll realise that there’s no way it’ll form little balls in that state so leave it in the fridge for around 15 mins. This will make it easier to roll into balls.
  5. Remove the mixture from the fridge and working quickly, roll into balls and place on your baking tray.
  6. Et voila. They’re ready to eat immediately. If you’re saving them, keep in the fridge and serve chilled.

The best thing about this recipe is that you can add whatever you want to make your own version: seeds, nuts, chopped dried fruit, vanilla essence etc.

Let us know how yours turn out!

[…] What a question! The latest guilty pleasure is Yao Yao Cha’s Bubble Teas – they have chewy tapioca balls in the bottom and I’m slowly working my way through all their flavours. Aside from that, I am in love with homemade raw chocolate balls. […]
