For one month only, Pret a Manager has made its Soho location veggie only. Fight the eager hoards of veggie enthusiasts and sample some of the tasty options they have to offer at Veggie Pret! Those that sell successfully will be rolled out nationwide.
The opening of the pop up location (over the month of June) follows a social media debate initiated by Pret that sparked interest in vegetarian products.
A few of the products on offer can be found in normal Pret locations but there are plenty of new additions to try. I was particularly pleased to see the addition of open sandwiches on rye bread, a healthier alternative to the famous crusty Pret baguette! I tried the Avocado and Egg option which made a tasty, light lunch. At just 337 kcal and with a low saturated fat and sugar content, I did not have the usual post sandwich, bloated guilt.
In addition, I tried the gluten free raw fruity seed bar that is made up of date paste, carob syrup, a variety of seeds, dried fruit and ground cinnamon. Although it is quite high in sugar, it is marketed as a ‘modern twist on a traditional flapjack’ and it makes a healthier alternative to the usual treats that Pret have to offer.
On a separate occasion, I popped in to try the courgetti yogurt pot which is a mint and cucumber yoghurt raita topped with spiralized courgettes, chopped mint, chargrilled peppers and toasted pine nuts. It was beautifully fresh and although I’m not sure it was filling enough for lunch, it would certainly make a good late afternoon snack or an additional small meal on days where exercise may have increased your appetite.
It is great to see that Pret are adapting their products to suit more health conscious individuals and to meet the growing trend for vegetarian food. I am very much looking forward to seeing what they decide to add to their permanent range.
