So as some of you saw on my social media, I was whisked from the hustle and bustle of London life; and got the chance to experience The West Lexham Manor, in Norfolk, Kings Lynn. I was ready to relax and unwind for the two day, one night retreat, courtesy of Lucy Mills.
The event was hosted at the sustainable friendly, beautiful 21 acred site, West Lexham. The venue was perfect and had the true countryside essence. (Perfect for clamping, weddings and retreats!) The event was hosted by Lucy Mills, Pilates instructor in one of London’s top private member club gyms.
During the two day taster I was able to enjoy an ensuite room, with heated floors; a-mazing, must I say; and delectable plant based cuisine by chef Lauren Lovatt founder of The Plant Hub and Academy. I was worried at first missing meat but I loved the creativity, and detail Lauren put into every meal we had! The vegetables used were all seasonal, so we got the cream of crop, all provided by local farmer, Danny. My belly was full and delighted that I was being fed with food that was nutritiously beneficial. During our time at the manor, we were also able to explore the grounds of West Lexham, which had amazing greenery, treehouses and a beautiful lake. What was surprising, most of the structures on site were produced from recyclable materials and it was amazing to see! In addition to this, we took a clean makeup workshop by Sjaniel. Unfortunately I was unable to try all the products as not all were available in my shade; as Sjaniel uttered, the clean industry still has some way to go in full representation for people of all colours.
One thing I particularly loved, was the Pilates classes we did with Lucy. I am usually in the weights room lifting double my bodyweight; so it was refreshing relaxing and connecting my mind with my body. The Pilates class took place in the main hall of the manor overlooking the gardens which led to our rooms. We used sustainable cork mats by Yatay Yoga! Non slip and soft to the touch. I also enjoyed eating as it is one of my favourite hobbies lol! And there was definitely not a shortage of that. I was also gifted with some amazing shoes by Vivo Barefoot, which imitate the notion of walking barefooted to aid your foot mechanisms and posture.
The time away helped to reiterate why taking time out to relax for yourself is so important for your mental wellbeing but also it is good to disconnect from the outside world whilst doing so. The experience was a great insight into living more consciously and sustainably, something I had not really considered before. The retreat is a great opportunity to be educated about how to live a more fulfilled and sustainable life with great company.
