EAST LONDON: ALDGATE EAST
If you’re after acupuncture, cupping, waxing or threading (massage, beauty treatments, something known as guasha, reflexology and so much more is also on offer but since I’ve not tried it I won’t talk about it here) and you’re in the East London area then Chisense is worth visiting. I’ve been going there ever since I moved to London almost 10 years ago but I’ve only recently tried acupuncture and cupping.
Hidden behind a gated area, Wen is welcoming and full of smiles. She’s attentive to your needs and often mixes in additional bits of Chinese medicine (there’s been a lot of analysis of my health just with a quick peek at my tongue) where needed. She’s helped me personally with my journey towards a healthier body and state of mind and as a consequence is helping me reduce my stress levels and improve my skin.
Chisense is basic (don’t expect anything fancy) but the quality of service is what makes me come back. You can keep your fluffy robes and post-treatment teas, I’m getting what I’m coming for and that’s more than enough for me. I won’t lie, I’m shit-scared of needles but it’s a testament to Wen’s nimble fingers and how well I sleep the evening after my treatment that I keep coming back. Every week, for now at least. And cupping is brutal with impressive octopus style marks instantly appearing – it’s a good way to bring all the ‘stagnations’ of the blood to the surface in order to break these down and get them out your body.
The vibe: Simple yet effective
Go for the: acupuncture – you’ll feel amazing after and this can help with anything from skin problems, to low energy levels and even fertility.
Price: Acupuncture is from £39 and Cupping is £40
Where to find it: 62 Green Dragon Yard, Old Montague Street, London E1 5NJ
