Healthy Living London writer Jessie shares 7 of her favourite low-cal and low-alcohol summer drinks…
Many of us find ourselves edging toward the booze cooler at the family BBQ or summer work after another awkward encounter with Bob from accounting or bumping into your long-lost aunt who you haven’t seen in 20 years.
Instead of picking up the standard lager, these exciting companies have a few healthier beverage options that are low-cal, refreshing and some are even alcohol-free!
Long Shot British Hard Seltzers
To start with, we have Long Shot British Hard Seltzers which have actually been named the World’s Best Hard Seltzer at the Pre Mix Awards 2021 (what an honour!). The reason why these are such a great alternative to your standard cocktail is the fact they contain all-natural juice and neutral grain spirit. They are also gluten-free, vegan, keto-friendly and less than 70 calories per can!
Long Shot is a much cleaner way to drink and offers brilliant flavours like Grapefruit, Raspberry and Black current, and Strawberry and Rhubarb. The grapefruit flavour was definitely my top pick! I’ll be bringing a case of these to the next garden party.
Berczy Hard Seltzers
Another great seltzer option is Berczy Hard Seltzers. At only 75 calories per can, and made with 100% natural ingredients, and very cute packaging, it’s hard not to pick up one of these drinks.
My favourite flavour was the Passionfruit & Turmeric, as it tasted like a light, refreshing pornstar martini without all of the extra sugar! There are two additional flavours to choose from including Lemon and Lime and Peach and Raspberry.

Naughty Water
Naughty Water is the third special seltzer, which similar to the others, contains 72 calories, keto and vegan friendly and is all-natural. The difference is, this seltzer contains a secret healthy ingredient… vitamin C! Talk about a kick in your drink… a healthy kick that is.
The aim for the founders was to create a cleaner cocktail, while still bringing fun and flavour. These tasty, naughty-but-nice drinks come in Mango & Passionfruit, Cranberry, and Blood Orange.
Since my go-to cocktail is generally vodka and soda to cut down calories and avoid heavy sugar, this was a really great alternative that made me feel like I didn’t have to sacrifice the flavour while having a nice drink in order to be relatively healthy. These are the perfect light, summer drinks to pass around to your friends and family.
Wild Life Botanicals
Feel like popping a bottle of bubbles on a Monday without the Tuesday guilt? There’s a solution for you.
Wild Life Botanicals has crafted their first ultra-low alcohol wine. These beautiful bottles contain a sophisticated fizz that not only tastes amazing but also holds eight vitamins and minerals and has 60% fewer calories than champagne or Prosecco.
The botanicals were crafted in Cornwall with an award-winning taste developer, medical herbalist and master brewer to create the perfect concoction that includes antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and mood-boosting ingredients.
This is the perfect summer fizz option that you’ll be popping open at all of your celebratory events.
Great tasting bubbles with benefits for your system? I’ll take another glass!
Benefit Water
Benefit Water is a great option for those who want the Hard Seltzer taste, with ONLY the benefits.
This non-alcoholic seltzer is taking the town by storm by providing three different flavours that each come with a variety of unique key benefits.
The Mango & Coconut flavour is perfect for boosting your system. It’s enriched with magnesium and B vitamins to aid brain function and power your body.
Apple’s primary purpose is to increase your fibre intake, as the majority of people don’t have enough fibre in our diet. This small, but powerful beverage supports your digestive system, clearing out all the toxins, allowing your body to absorb other necessary nutrients throughout the day.
The last and my personal favourite flavour is Lemon & Elderflower. This drink contains twelve key vitamins and really delivers a punch.
Since keeping my system running smoothly is a big priority all year round, I know these drinks will work in unison to keep me looking and feeling my best.
Pentire
Pentire is the perfect spirit for those looking to still enjoy their cocktails, only with a non-alcoholic twist!
Pentire’s process is quite an interesting one, as they distil unique plants that are native to the Cornish coast. They use sustainably sourced ingredients to create their two distinct spirits which are Adrift and Seaward.
Adrift takes on an earthy, fresh taste with ingredients like rock samphire, sage, citrus and sea salt. Whereas Seward boasts a zesty citrus flavour with notes of grapefruit, wild seaweed, rosemary, woodruff and buckthorn.
Not only do Pentire make great tasting non-alcoholic spirits, but they contribute toward the protection of our oceans by supporting the Blue Marine Foundation that protects and rewilds our oceans.

Mother Root Ginger Switchel Elixir
Last but not least on the list for those looking to switch up their summer drink to something not only tasty but beneficial for your body is the special elixir crafted by the founder, Bethan.
Bethan was searching for something that gave her the comfort and relaxation that comes from choosing to have a drink, only she realized she didn’t need to attach this downtime moment to alcohol.
From this concept, Mother Root Ginger Switchel Elixir was born. This age-old American inspired recipe contains all-natural pressed ginger juice, blossom honey and organic apple cider vinegar. You simply mix Mother Root with soda and garnish with a slice of orange and rosemary to create the perfect summer spritz.
I am a massive fan of ginger myself and also have been told from a young age from my mother who works in the medical field, that apple cider vinegar is the remedy to nearly every health problem. This is why it wasn’t hard to convince me to try Mother Root’s Ginger Elixir and be swept away by the glorious, robust flavour.
I’ll definitely be adding this to my list of regular summer beverages!
