Fab Giovanetti tries out her first raw food masterclass, led by Denisa from Second Nature.
Last week I took part once again to a raw food masterclass with Second Nature in Hoxton. Having experienced it once before, I was more than happy to milk nuts, blend greens and soak seeds for the second time. More importantly, I was excited to be around Denisa, the workshop’s creator. Her energy and passion is what makes this masterclass the perfect starting point for a shift in your way to perceive food. She encourages you to touch the food, use your hands and allow yourself to eat whatever your body is craving.
Since she adopted a raw and vegan diet 2 years ago before back surgery, she lost 30 pounds, her energy spiked, her skin cleared and all in a sudden she is making daily smoothies in her kitchen – check your Instagram for daily inspiration. She shares knowledge and tips about how to incorporate a plant-based diet into your everyday life.
Starting off with her staple green smoothie with kale, banana and apples, she engages with a really active crowd, pleasantly surprised that well, kale does taste good. Subsequently we learn to make the most delicious raw courgette, avocado and garlic soup topped with a Brazil Nut sour cream, packed with heathy fats – the bottom line is ‘the brain is made of fat, so you should not be afraid of eating your fats!
The class is full of little tips that you probably never thought of, including how to sprout your lentils home, how to make your own yogurt and how chewing your liquids you’re more likely to feel satiated and energised by them. Practically speaking, most of the crowd is surprised by the almond milk made on the spot: ‘we’re the only animals drinking milk from another species!’- well said Denisa.
The class with the chia seed pudding, topped with a freshly made raw cacao and fig mousse (the most decadent mousse you’ll ever taste). Finally, the workshop includes a weekly meal plan from Denisa after the class and a private group to share tips and ideas. As Denisa would say,
‘let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food’
