It’s October and the weather has already turned against us… what happened to summer? The clocks are going back at the end of the month, just in time for Halloween. However, our October round up is full of treats; no tricks here! From delicious Genie Kombucha, to bright lights so that you can be seen on those darker days, here’s what we have recently been trying and testing at Healthy Living London.
October Round Up
Genie Kombucha
Genie Kombucha is an award winning kombucha and probiotic drink’s company. Friends Alex and Bill wanted to create a grown-up drink that wasn’t packed with sugar, but was good for you. Together, they founded Genie.
…We agreed on the toughest rules: only natural ingredients allowed. Only ethically sourced ingredients and supply chains allowed. Everything we made had to have real health benefits. And it had to taste better than anything else you could buy or make yourself.
Genie Kombucha
And they’ve done it. Their drinks are absolutely delicious and the company is ethical and thoughtful. The bottles and cans are packed in the UK and are 100% recyclable, they have partnered with food charities and food banks and they plant trees for every case they sell. That’s awesome for a small and fairly new company.
The kombucha is available in three flavours; fiery ginger, dry apple and crisp citrus. My favourite is the fiery ginger; it’s sharp, refreshing and is a great mixer for a Moscow Mule! Their soda range, which contains live probiotic cultures, is available in lemonade and orangeade.
A fruity, fermented soda made with black tea, fruit juices, and a few natural extracts… it’s packed with antioxidants, fermented cultures, and enzymes for great gut health.

Mnched
Mnched is a brand new business, created by Lorna, that sell portable cutlery. Lorna’s office were no longer providing cutlery in their communal staff kitchen, due to hygiene reasons during the pandemic, so Lorna went online to buy her own sustainable set. She discovered that most portable sets were either children’s size or lacked a good level of hygiene for portability, so she decided to make her own!
Mnched – the world’s first stainless steel cutlery and straw set. It comes in its own unique, purpose made case. And better still, everything is guaranteed dishwasher safe! Built to last a lifetime.
Lorna, Founder of Mnched
Perfect for work, picnics, camping, etc, these portable sets are fabulous, plus they are dishwasher safe, awesome. I really like the pattern, it’s very smart for a portable set! I have used disposable wooden ones, but they often have a funny taste as they absorb the food. Mnched are stainless steel, plus the set is free of BPA, BPS, and phthalates, plus, the box is made from recycled polypropylene. I really like my set, but the box clip is a little loose. Having said that, I have used my set many times already and even took it to Regent’s Park outdoor theatre, where I had a pre-show picnic. It’s compact, useful and I love the straw which comes with it’s own cleaning brush.

Howdah Authentic Indian Nibbles
Howdah snacks bring the fiery taste of India to the UK. Their range include the onion bhaji, bakarwadi, Bombay mix and marsala dippers. They are absolutely delicious and go great with a curry, or on their own. My favourite is the onion bhaji, it’s crunchy, tasty and incredibly moorish. The bakarwadi is sweet and great as a little treat after your curry.
What started as a dream to bring the incredible snacks of India back to the UK soon transformed into something much bigger: a mission to use food as a force for good.
Howdah
The company is incredible. They are on a mission to fight hunger in India and have partnered with Akshaya Patra to provide meals for those in need. For every snack bag purchased, Howdah provide a free school meal. By encouraging these children to go to school and feeding them properly, Howdah give their parents the motivation to support their children’s education and their future.

Ultimate Performance Eddystone Clip-On LED Light
Ultimate Performance Eddystone Clip-On LED Light is essential for this time of year. The days are getting shorter and darker and it is imperative that you are seen when running, cycling or walking home at night. This lightweight clip-on LED light is bright blue, waterproof, clips on easily, feels secure and is small enough to carry in your pocket, when not out and about. You could even clip it to your dog’s collar!
The Ultimate Performance Eddystone Clip-On LED Light is an ultra bright LED which is visible at up to ½ mile. Use in either a constant or flashing mode. Like the Eddystone lighthouse, our Clip-On LED Light acts as a warning signal to others of your presence in the dark nights, ideal for runners, walkers and cyclists.
1000mile.co.uk
I love the website 1000mile.co.uk, I have sourced many essential items from them. I especially love my UP LED vest which is super bright and I wear regularly when out cycling at night. The Hot Dots are also a great way to shine and be visible; super easy to use and definitely fun for the kids.

Tastily Meals
Tastily, the pre-made delivery service, teamed up with London school children to create three new meals as part of its Chefs in Schools partnerships. The aim of the partnership is to educate children about healthy eating and so they came up with their own delicious meals. I, and my children aged 3 and 5 years, sampled the macaroni cheese with roasted veg, the macaroni cheese with ham hock and the jerk chicken with rice and beans. I can’t quite say what the ham hock mac and cheese was like, as my boys gobbled that up! I love how the meals are packed with veg and take just 3 minutes in the microwave so are ideal when you, or others in your family are hungry.
There’s over 32 dishes in the full menu to choose from, with a set of 4 meals starting from £8 each. I won’t lie, I’m tempted by the chicken tikka!
