Healthy Living London went to the exclusive preview of Peloton House, an immersive pop-up event in Covent Garden, where we tested out the Peloton Bike for the first time in the UK.
WHAT IS PELOTON?
Already favourited by the likes of David Beckham, Rita Ora, Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson – New York based cycling sensation, Peloton, is at-home, on-demand spinning where you can stream live and on-demand classes by world-renowned instructors across the globe, from the comfort of your own home.
Peloton has just landed in London and I was one of the lucky few to test it out first. Chauffeured one early Thursday morning to the new Peloton House Showroom in Covent Garden, I was very excited to get in the saddle. With so many different spin studios in London at the moment, I was intrigued to see how Peloton would be different.
On arrival, I was warmly greeted by the Peloton team and kitted out head to toe in some fabulous Peloton kit – Leggings, Top and the comfiest cleated shoes. I was then shown to my very own themed room, to see the Peloton Bike in its full glory and to test it out. My session would be taking place in the living room and strangely enough the beautifully designed bike fitted into the décor and feel of the room perfectly. Who would have thought?
Each Peloton Bike is equipped with a 22-inch HD sweat-proof touchscreen, which lets you tune in and experience all Peloton’s daily live and 10,000+ on-demand classes, giving users the intensity and excitement of ride sessions from world-renowned instructors in the comfort and convenience of their own home. What is so dreamy about the classes is that they come in a variety of different lengths, from 10 minutes to 90 minutes and much more that allow you to fit in a workout into your lifestyle whenever you can; a beacon of light for those that struggle to find time in their day to exercise or to get to class.
I opted for a 30 minute, R N B workout with renowned US Peloton Cycle Senior Instructor, Alex Toussaint (who I actually also got to meet after the class too as he was in town for the launch). The bike was adjusted to my body perfectly, which I felt was so refreshing as being 5ft2; I struggle to get bikes in normal classes to fit me. Clipped in, on the saddle and I was ready to go!
Normally, I am not a huge fan of Spin par the odd Psycle or 1Rebel class or SoulCycle when I am over in the states. However, Peloton was very impressive on a variety of different levels. Firstly, even though I was spinning on my own, I felt like I was in a studio. The great technology, amazing audio and camerawork and professionalism of everything really created such a fabulous atmosphere. Secondly, with the on-screen performance tracking metrics, you felt like you mattered and you were there to do your best alongside many others taking part in the same class around the world. Sometimes the instructor even did shout outs, which really added that personal touch to the class.
Another element that massively impressed me, was how engaged I became in the class and how effective the workout appeared to be as I was drenched in sweat after a 30 minute session.
Efficient, entertaining and effective, Peloton definitely was ticking a lot of my boxes.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Peloton is a welcome addition to the UK bringing a unique spin on spinning! Whether the bikes will fly off the shelves, I do not know but I know for sure that when their studios come over, there will be queues outside for sure!
Unfortunately, Peloton doesn’t come cheap; as to purchase a Bike it will set you back £1,990 with a £39.50 per month for the unlimited class subscription. Classes in the States are priced at £25 a session. However, you can try out a complimentary session in the UK at Peloton House for a limited time only over the next few months.
I would most definitely recommend trying this one out!
