Pure Sports Medicine invited Healthy Living London to one of their summer series events at Canary Wharf. Pure Sports Medicine’s Rooftop Pilates With Sweaty Betty is hosted on the Crossrail rooftop; an airy and light space, surrounded by greenery, convenient for many as it is moments away from the office, if you happen to work in Canary Wharf! Natalie Wright, a Pilates instructor and Sweaty Betty ambassador, led the class through a series of core strengthening exercises.
Canary Wharf doesn’t sound the most natural place to host a Pilates class, however, the Crossrail rooftop is an open space, with lots of light and a gentle breeze that keeps you cool during these warmer days. Some of the panels on the geometric roof are open, so air is free-flowing and you can look up at the brilliant blue sky that is currently gracing London. Whilst the floor is hard, the Pure Sports Medicine’s Rooftop Pilates With Sweaty Betty series provides mats for you, so you don’t have to carry one with you from work.
Natalie Wright, Pure Sports Medicine’s Pilates instructor, then led us through a core strengthening session that lasted ages… I mean an hour! Wow, she’s good at working your core. From simple crunches, to incorporating arm movements, I found I was hugging my knees to my chest during any moment of rest! Her detailed instructions and her flow of movements during the class displayed her knowledge and professionalism. The class worked me to the core and I felt this for a few days after the class.
After the class had ended, we were treated to a delicious shake from Protein Haus and a post class shopping and drinks reception at Sweaty Betty, Canary Wharf. The ticket price includes this, plus it comes with a goody bag! Mine included a £15 voucher for Sweaty Betty, a surprisingly yummy Wheyhey chocloate orange brownie, a supplement shot from Beauty and Go, and a gift voucher for Pure Sports Medicine… thank you!
Having received a voucher for Pure Sports Medicine, I thought I’d check out the Canary Wharf space. The clinic has a large Pilates studio and a gym area for sport’s recovery and strength and conditioning sessions, as well as several small and private therapy rooms. I decided to book myself into a half hour sports massage with Lynsey, who was lovely. She spent time asking me health questions about my body and asked about my fitness aims. I then chose to have her focus on my lower back, as this is where I often suffer from the most discomfort whilst working out. She listened and gave advice and shared her expertise with me, which I appreciate. The massage itself was firm and definitely helped break up the knots in my lower back.
