With Christmas fast approaching, it is easy to become wrapped up in the stress and anxiety that the season often brings. Fortunately, Healthy Living London attended Go.Do.Be.Inspired – An Evening Of Mindfuel, an event that was hosted by Benenox in London. During the event we learned how to think more creatively, use the power of persuasion to our advantage and we learned that dancing can improve feelings of depression, plus so many more helpful and interesting pieces of advice. We want to share them with you, our readers, that you may Go.Do.Be. Inspired…
Here are the people we met at the Go.Do.Be.Inspired evening of mindfuel and hopefully the advice they shared with us will help you…
JP Flintoff –
Professional Improviser JP Flintoff, discussed how anyone can use improvisation, or in-the-moment inspiration, to succeed in any situation.
Here are his top tips…
- You always have what you need, so use it.
- Notice what you have and be honest about it.
- Notice what’s around you.
- Be in the moment and commit.
Sarah Stein Lubrano –
Head of Content at The School of Life, Sarah Stein Lubrano, discussed how to unlock your inner creativity.
Here are her top tips…
- Sleep is very important for creativity (We love this advice!).
- Combine things you already know about to make something better.
- An insight from one field may be used in another and be even be more successful!
I love this last piece of advice. Sarah used the example of Play-doh. Originally created as a wallpaper cleaner (as burning coal left a thin layer of soot in the room) sales were in decline after coal was replaced with wood, as well as the invention of vinyl paper which meant walls could be wiped down with water and soap. Knowing the company was in financial trouble, a relative bought a bunch of the wallpaper cleaner for her primary school pupils to use to make Christmas decorations. The children loved playing with the wallpaper cleaner so much so that the company decided to create Play-Doh. The same product, but with added colours and without the cleaning detergent! With this story, Sarah Stein Lubrano gave the perfect example of how something can be more successful if re-purposed.
Dr Brennan –
A philosopher at the school of life, Dr Brennan, discussed the power of persuasion.
Here are his top tips…
- Reassurance is so important. Take the example of a child believing in the monster under the bed. It is so simple, but by just checking with that child, you are reassuring them and this enables them to know that nothing is there. This gives them security and allows them to feel safe.
- Identify fears and make a safe space.
- See the view you’re trying to take on. Put yourself in their position and try to understand what it’s like for them.
- If you empathise with them, they will listen to you and in turn, your opinions.
Pippa Murray –
Pippa Murray has created a hugely successful business with her delicious butter nuts and milks, as well as a fabulous recipe book.
Here are her top tips for a successful business…
You must –
- Have passion
- Be obsessive
- Have grit
- Be a visionary
- Be bold, sell the dream
- Always ask why/how/what can I do to make it better
- Be a proactive problem solver
Pippa asked us to think about what we, the audience, could do to improve or change.
Dr Peter Lovatt –
Dr Peter Lovatt discussed the relationship between movement and the mind. Bearing in mind there are hundreds of possibilities in most situations, getting up and moving helps us to think, especially if you are blocked. (He got us all on our feet dancing!)
Here are his top tips…
- If you want to think creatively, move your body.
- Dancing can improve feelings of depression.
- The way we move our body is influenced by our hormones.
- Our bodies speak louder than words and this body language can reveal more than words…
Robert Rowland Smith –
Robert Rowland Smith took examples of dreams from the audience and interpreted them. They often revealed hidden desires or fears, it was so interesting. I told him about my recurring dream of war and he told me it was about identity. This is fascinating to me as I am a dual citizen and have always felt like I belonged in two different places!
Here are his top tips…
- Dreams can be a prophecy, a desire or a fear.
- Expression of an unconscious wish.
